Samuel McMillan

“My captain was killed, first lieutenant was killed, second lieutenant shot through the hand...”

Early 20s

Samuel McMillan enlisted in the First Maryland Regiment, 4th Co. in May, 1776, with his brother, William. They marched to New York in June, under Captain Boughey, and on August 27 fought in the Battle of Brooklyn at Shore Road Pass and the Old Stone House. At the House, where their regiment provided cover for others to escape, the brothers were taken prisoner. They were held in Brooklyn and then in Halifax until April 27, 1777, when despite their trials, they re-enlisted.
